The Fold: Birthday Permissions Redux

A list of stuff I'm allowed to do, because I'm an adult and I said so

For the past decade or so, on my birthday, I give myself permission to do or not do something. Here are some past examples, in no particular order:

Eat the whole batch of mac & cheese, if that's what I feel called upon to do

Use a kleenex fewer than 4 times

Giggle, inwardly or outwardly depending on the situation, whenever I hear the word "duty"

Buy stickers and glitter glue

Stop working and go to bed

Say no to art shows / commissions that don't interest me or make me feel uncomfortable

Make quilts instead of making paintings

Stop reading books I don't enjoy

Wear yoga pants in public, even if I'm not headed to/from a yoga class

New this year: Saying no to going out of the house. (It's not you. I love you so much. I'm profoundly tired.)

Wanna make your own list? Here are some ideas to get started. (Thanks, Austin Kleon!)

What permissions are you giving yourself lately?

Talk with you soon,

xoxo Sarah
